What is the killer instinct?
The killer instinct is not common, it belongs only to the audacious ones. Having the killer instinct is the difference between those who achieve greatness, and those who are forgotten in history. The killer instinct is being able to identify opportunities, creep up behind them with your nunchakus, and assassinate them in a way that would make Bruce Lee proud. Those with the killer instinct always close their deals, they always finish what they start kind of like James Bond or Jack Bauer. It ultimately requires a sharp eye, and unrelenting discipline to stay on task.
Grabbing Opportunity by the horns
The difference between those with the instinct and those without it, is their approach to dealing with new opportunities. Those with the killer instinct do not think twice about new opportunities in life, they grab them while everyone else is sleeping on the decision. These people see opportunities as a chance for personal growth through exposure to new experiences. These people can not go backwards in life only forward, they are like nomads moving from place to place with no comfort zone.
It is normal to be scared of new experiences, fear of the unknown has been essential in keeping humans away from danger for thousands of years. Our bodies are the same as they were ten thousand years ago, however the world we live in is much safer. Our bodies have not adapted to the rate of technological advances and the society we live in, and hence the fear of new experiences we feel is unwarranted. Taking risks and stepping into the unknown is hardly ever a matter of life and death, so embrace the fear it’s just an illusion.
The different faces of Opportunity
Sometimes opportunities are not obvious, sometimes we require some education to be able to identify when an opportunity is waving at us. Think of the late 90s when Silicon Valley was firing up with Tech start-ups, the opportunity presented itself only to those who were educated in the languages of programming, if you did not educate yourself prior you missed out. Think of the economic fall of 2008, if you understood the stock market like Ray Dalio or Warren Buffet, you would have been ready for one of the greatest investment periods in the past one hundred years.
Some opportunities are as clear as daylight , we notice people left and right getting results from them, and intuitively know that it is something we have to try out. Often family members or friends are the ones that recommend we try something new, and get out feet wet. Generally we get that gut feeling that wants us to take the leap, but often times we let our fear of the unknown stop us. You natural instincts point towards to right direction 90% of the time, trust them and choose progression over comfort.
Sticking to the plan | Become the closer
The killer instinct entails having a sense of integrity in your work, this means finishing everything that you start. Too many people in life fall into the habit of starting new fads only to quit them prematurely. This is usually seen around the world in the first few weeks of January when gyms are flooded with the new year resolution fitness freaks. These gym enthusiasts generally give up after three weeks. This trend is not exclusive to gyms, it is seen every where in life, people don’t finish what they start.
As a closer you finish everything you start, because you understand that success is a by product of unrelenting persistence and adaptability. You understand that if you fall short on your word, you will never get the success you want. There is no giving way as a closer, no compromises, or excuses, there is only room for results. The closer understands that if they compromise on one thing, they will be more likely to compromise on something else creating a dichotomous key of failures.
Closing before it begins
Becoming a closer is not as difficult as it sounds. All that is required is a greater sense of integrity in your word, your word must be your bond. This can be strengthened through keeping your promises to others ( arriving on time to meetings etc), and ultimately yourself. Once you get into this mode of thinking, finishing what you started is easy, because your mind does not see any other alternatives, you literally burn your boats.
If you can combine the ability to pick up opportunities swiftly, as well as the ability to close all your goals, you will have the killer instinct. Success in whatever you choose whether is be; In business, education, dating/pick-up, blogging , sport will be inevitable.
