The Spiritual Prototype – How To Manifest Faster
The Spiritual Prototype is a term coined by Thomas Troward and popularized by his student Geneviève Behrend. The idea of a spiritual prototype is a core tool for utilizing the Law of Growth.
The Law of Growth, according to Troward, is the force which leads the universe to continual expansion through following natural means.
What is a Spiritual Prototype?
A prototype is the primary version of something before its final development.
A spiritual prototype is the version of a thing held in the mind before becoming real in our physical world.
Before the Burj Khalifa was built and stood almost a kilometer in the sky, it took form in the mind of an architect.
The seed of the idea was the spiritual prototype.
Before the skyscraper took form, it came from the need of a certain thing.
“The simplest method of finding a spiritual prototype of any object is to ask yourself to what use it is to be put, what does it stand for, in other words, what is the reason for its being?… A house is an effect of a need for shelter, comfort, protection, and the like.”
— Thomas Troward (Attaining Your Desires)
So the spiritual prototype stems from an intangible theme and gets more refined with further contemplation.
Thomas Troward gives the example of finding the spiritual prototype of a car.
“The automobile is, of course, an instrument, a means of PROGRESS, of rapid, pleasant, harmonious PROGRESS.” — Thomas Troward (How To Live Your Life and Love It)
So the idea is to think about what you want.
Start from the core need and then through visualization fill in the details of what you want.
The core need stimulates your emotions.
Things with higher emotional charge will draw more attention from the subconscious mind which will help you realize your goal.
Is the Spiritual Prototype Real?
“The spiritual prototype of anything is the thing itself in its most incipient state, is the actual origin of the thing in the Universal Mind.”
— Thomas Troward
Troward encourages students to regard the spiritual prototype as being a real entity living in the spiritual domain.
This spiritual place of unrealized potential has been called different names by mystics through the generations.
Neville Goddard calls it the fourth dimension, Vadim Zeland the alternative space, and some theoretical physicists refer to it as alternate dimensions.
Students of the occult might call this spiritual domain the astral, mental or etheric realms.
Through the Hermetic Law of Correspondence ‘As above so below’, these realms often mirror things seen on the physical.
Thomas Troward in his Edinburgh Lectures explains how the spiritual prototype was inspired by ‘Plato in his doctrine of archetypal ideas, and by Swedenborg in his doctrine of correspondences’.
He continues by linking his New Thought philosophy to the teachings of Jesus.
“…and a still greater teacher has said, ‘All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye have received them, and ye shall receive them.’”
Despite your thoughts on the philosophy and science,
what’s needed is faith.
Faith that your spiritual prototype is developing in the unseen and operating through the Law of Growth.
What Is The Law of Growth?
Everything is seeking greater expansion.
When you plant a seed, there is a hidden intelligence that pushes it out to sprout.
If you plant tomato seeds, you will get a tomato plant not a strawberry plant despite how much you might resist nature’s plans.
“The law of Nature is the principle of growth from a vitality inherent in the entity itself. If we realize this from the outset we shall not undo our own work by endeavoring to force things to become that which by their own nature they are not.”
Understanding this Law encourages you to let go of the idea of forcing things.
Instead of trying to change outer circumstances through pure force, you can focus on the root cause of the external world.
Your internal world via the creation of Spiritual Prototypes.
The outside world is simply a mirror of your previous thoughts.
To change your future, you need to change your thoughts in the present moment.
Spend time refining the idea in your mind and the outer world will begin to comply.
“You should first form a clear conception in your objective mind of the sort of a house which you desire; whether one, two, or three stories; the number and size of the rooms; how many windows and doors; in short, you should mentally picture the completed house, both inside and out. Go all around the house; look over the exterior; then go indoors and examine it carefully from cellar to garret in every detail. Then drop the picture and dwell in the spiritual prototype of the house.”
Do not mistake these mental science principles for magic or woo-woo.
Work still needs to be done on the physical plane.
But when you are moving in the right direction, this work will effortlessly flow.
It won’t feel like the world is against you.
It will all make sense as the right circumstances will arise to aid in your goal.
“It may be a very small circumstance, but it is the direction and not the magnitude which is to be taken into consideration. As soon as we see it we should regard it as the first sprouting of the seed we have sown in the Absolute, and do calmly, and without excitement, whatever the circumstances may seem to require.”
Let’s say you want to be an author.
Instead of rushing to write a lackluster piece of content, you decide to form a spiritual prototype of a great work.
What does being an author mean to you?
Perhaps the fundamental idea of creativity arises.
You imagine creating new worlds, characters, themes and concepts.
You sit in this mental space of ‘creativity’ and begin to visualize potential ideas for your book.
Everywhere you look you begin to get ideas for your book.
While browsing the internet, you see an ad for a writing workshop by a best-selling author of fantasy novels.
It turns out fantasy is exactly the genre you intended to explore.
The workshop is an example of circumstances showing up to help you realize your goal.
If you truly want to be an author, it makes sense to attend the workshop and continue your adventure of creating.
If you maintain dedication to the spiritual prototype, the idea and feeling of creativity, you eventually will achieve your goal.
Patience, faith and dedication to creating the Spiritual Prototype are needed for success.
“If we do not at once see them, let us rest content with the knowledge that the spiritual prototype is already in existence and wait till some circumstance pointing in the desired direction begins to show itself.”
Most people fail to create because they do not keep the image of what they want for long enough in their minds.
Do this, and you will be one step closer to living and dying well.
