Neville Goddard’s Remembering Process Explained – Manifest Faster

Posted on May 13, 2026May 20, 2026 by Isaac

I want to teach you a method for creating reality that I learned from Neville Goddard.

Many people have called it the ‘I Remember When’ method.

The method was outlined in one of his lectures,

Neville shares a dream he once had of a grandfather.

This grandfather was a real estate mogul behind some major mansions and hotels in New York City.

During his youth, before his success, he would stand on an empty lot with his children and tell them,

‘I remember when this was an empty lot,’

His children would look at each other, puzzled,

Had the old man finally lost it? Weren’t they indeed looking at an empty lot?

‘I remember when this was an empty lot,’

The grandfather would repeat and then begin to describe the vision of the buildings “so vividly that those who heard him could see it rise before their eyes.”

The grandfather understood the idea that imagination and assumptions shape reality.

By choosing to remember what he did (before it happened) instead of hoping for it to happen, he effectively tricked his subconscious mind into accepting the reality.

When the subconscious accepts an idea, it will operate from the lens of that idea being true.

When this happens, it will inevitably come true as the subconscious steers the trajectory of your life through small, calculated actions.

The subconscious can accept a work of fiction as reality because it lacks discernment.

This is why good movies create emotional responses in us.

When our conscious minds are sleeping, and we are slightly hypnotised by the screen, we might find ourselves lost in the moment.

We get lost in another dream.

We can laugh, we can cry at complete fiction.

Neville Goddard’s Game of Assumptions

“You can say, I remember when he had nothing, which would imply that now he has something. You can say, I remember when he had much, which would imply that now he has little or nothing.”

– Neville

The I Remember When technique is like an affirmation through the lens of the Inversion Principle.

Charlie Munger, the famous Billionaire investment genius, used to play around with the powerful mental model.

“All I want to know is where I’m going to die, so I’ll never go there.”

He would say, signifying the importance of knowing what you don’t want to attain what you do.

This technique works via the same mechanism.

Many people have tried affirmations like,

I am a millionaire,

Often, they feel stupid saying things like this.

Especially when they look around, and all they see is lack.

Since our childhood, we have been taught to focus on what’s in front of us, the objective reality.

This conditioning is hard to break.

But something interesting happens when you say,

“I remember when I used to struggle with money”

Somehow, the subconscious does not struggle with the idea.

The idea operates on a different psychological realm, a different mental timeline.

One that doesn’t have to contradict our current reality.

It’s not so outrageous as to be rejected instantly, it’s intriguing.

It seems like a fun game to play.

Meanwhile, a seed is silently planted in the mind.

This seed, which will germinate in time if you keep assuming via remembering

“I remember when I was overweight”

“I remember the moment I figured out how to lose the weight”

“I remember when I saw my abs”

The method can be used for anything.

Have some fun with it.
