Broken Windows Theory and the Law of Attraction: Why Your Environment Matters More Than You Think

Posted on April 15, 2026April 15, 2026 by Isaac

I want to share a story that I feel you will relate to.

I once visited Parramatta, a city in Sydney.

As soon as I set foot off the train, I noticed a distinct change in atmosphere.

It was almost as if the air got denser.

Within 5 minutes of walking around the train station, a drunk man approached me and hugged me.

His breath reeked of alcohol; as a matter of fact, he was still holding a bottle in his hand.

“Hey brother, can you bless me? Times are tough, brother, we’re struggling out here.”

Being naïve, I said to him.

“I will pray for you, brother”

He quickly walked off uninterested.

It was only later that I realised that he wanted a financial blessing.

My bad dude.

Anyway,

I spent the rest of the day with my partner, going to restaurants in the area. The food was good but there was a sense of uneasiness there.

We decided to leave early because the vibe of the city seemed off.

The people seemed odd.

I once caught a similar vibe in 2018 when I first visited Los Angeles.

I was shocked to see that this city I once thought was the pinnacle of glitz and glamour, was actually some dystopian Hunger Games-Like society.

Hundreds of drugged-out homeless people in the streets, while the rich oligarchs watched on from the hills.

Bizarre.

You have probably had this feeling too.

You’re not going crazy,

There are distinct energy signatures to different locations. The energy is often the sum-product of the thoughts of the people living there.

The combined energy creates the atmosphere of the location. This thought energy is then reflected in the physical world through the actions of the occupants.

Broken Window Theory

“The essence of the broken windows theory is that disorder, if left unattended, signals that no one cares and leads to more serious crime.”

— Rudy Giuliani.

During the 1990s, New York experienced a rapid decline in crime.
Violent crimes dropped by 56% (double the national average of 28%).

Many attribute the massive drop to what has been coined the “Broken Windows theory”.

The broken windows theory states that crime is the inevitable result of chaos and disorder.

If a window in a neighbourhood or city is left broken, people will assume that no one is enforcing order.

With time, another window in the building will break, then another and another.

Eventually, people will go for broke, break into the building and make themselves at home.

You might have seen a similar scenario happen to an abandoned car left on a roadside for too long.

Initially, no one touches the car, but with time, all of its components are stripped by vultures.

This is how the thought energy of a location leads to a change in the physical world.

The Atmosphere of a Human

“You have heard about the atmosphere of homes, buildings, towns, and communities that is made up of the collective thought of the people who live there, but the atmosphere of a man is what he ‘thinks about all day long.'”

— Robert A Russell

Taking this idea to its logical conclusion, let’s now look at the individual.

The same principles apply in that your mental vibrations will create your atmosphere.

The things you think about on a regular basis will inevitably lead to your outer results.

If you’re stuck in a world of mental limitation and frustration the resulting consequences will be less optimal actions in the outer-world.

You might make a critical mistake that leads to a series of unfortunate events.

Perhaps your inner-darkness keeps your ability to discern options at a minimum.

You then continue to repeat the same chaotic cycle and never get ahead.

To make things worse,

Just as one broken window leads to more broken windows.
Negative thoughts beget more negativity.

It’s a vicious cycle that can be escaped through the light of awareness.

For this, we will need to revisit the work of James Allen,

James Allen Wisdom

“Circumstance does not make the man; it reveals him to himself.” — James Allen

People always complain about their circumstances.
They believe they are the victim of their circumstances.

If I lived in this place, I would be better off.
If I had that opportunity, I would be further ahead.
If only this hadn’t happened to me, my situation would be different.

Have you ever had thoughts like that?

We all have because the world would have us believe that our results are created just from our circumstances.

The world would have us believe that we are powerless and our will is dictated by heavenly forces outside our control.

Our world is complex, and at times, there are things that happen that appear to be divinely ordained.

Sometimes shit happens.

But we have come to this earth with the gift of free will.

If we did not have free will there would be no point to this existence; we might as well have been a rock or a sausage.

Humans have the capacity to choose how to act at any given time.

That’s actually the only thing that separates us from animals.

There is a divine spark within that can be expressed at any time.

This is why animals often behave the same under the same circumstances, but humans can have drastically different reactions.

Your level of awareness dictates your capacity to choose and ultimately have power in this physical world.

For most of us we can’t control the exact manifestations that we see in our outer-world but we all have control over the choices we make.

You can’t control the cards you receive in your hand from the deck of cards, but you do control how you play those cards.

This is why some people who start off disadvantaged can get ahead.

They play the shit out of those cards boi.

Now let’s move on to the second part of this quote, which is very profound:

“it reveals him to himself”

Your outer conditions at any given time reveal your inner conditions of yesterday.

If you’re constantly broke and never get ahead in life.

Look at your thoughts over the past few years.

Were you thinking negatively about money?

Did you despise people who had money?

Did you believe that you could achieve prosperity, or did you bathe in low self-esteem?

Your outer conditions reveal your previous thinking.

The world works like a Mirror, but a delayed mirror.

There is a lag time between what you’re thinking now and what you will see.

This is why people look down on Reality Creation methods.

They try to visualise for 2 weeks, and nothing changes, so they give up.

Here is the truth that few people will tell you because it’s not sexy and doesn’t sell courses.

What you’re thinking today will be manifested next year and in the coming decades.

It usually doesn’t happen straight away.

You will have to put up with your current world in the meantime; you can’t just dissolve the work you did yesterday because you no longer want it.

Thoughts are like seeds and need time to germinate.

Everything in nature takes a long ass time to grow; the same happens with your actions on the mental plane.

The key is to believe in the principle and continue to do the inner work even when the world continues to look the same.

Hold the fort, and you will begin to see changes.

It’s like what the Late Steve Jobs said in his commencement speech,

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”
— Steve Jobs
