The Master Key System Chapter 14 – Understanding The Conscious, Subconscious and Universal Mind
The Master Key System Chapter 14 deals with the connection between the conscious, subconscious and Universal Mind.
Haanel begins by showing the relationship between the minds.
“The conscious and subconscious are but two phases of action in connection with one mind.”
All minds are connected but behave differently.
The One Mind or Universal Mind is the most powerful.
Connection Between Conscious and Subconscious Mind
The conscious mind influences the subconscious mind just as the weather influences a weathervane.
When the wind blows north, the weathervane will point north.
When the wind blows south, the weathervane will point south.
It’s important to note subconscious processes can also influence our conscious minds (look into priming).
But for the process of reality creation, you influence the subconscious through your conscious mind.
“This negative mind, which is contained in every cell of the body, has been called the subconscious mind, because it acts without our conscious knowledge. We have found that this subconscious mind is responsive to the will of the conscious mind.”
Imagine both the conscious and subconscious minds sitting on a spectrum.
The subconscious is of a negative polarity whilst the conscious is of a positive polarity.
They are two different sides of the same coin and hence can influence each other.
Connection Between Subconscious Mind and Universal Mind
For reality creation, we influence the subconscious mind through the concentrated will of the conscious.
The subconscious mind then sends a message to the Universal Mind, which then helps influence outer conditions.
“A recognition and understanding of the resources of the subconscious mind will indicate that the only difference between the subconscious and the Universal is one of degree. They differ only as a drop of water differs from the ocean. They are the same in kind and quality, the difference is one of degree only.”
The subconscious mind’s nature is very much like that of the Universal Mind.
Your subconscious mind easily handles things automatically without your conscious awareness.
You don’t have to worry about breathing, digestion or other bodily functions.
The Universal Mind does the same but from a universal perspective.
Planets stay in their orbits, galaxies are created and destroyed.
Electrons, protons and neutrons attract each other and form molecules.
New species arise, and some disappear.
It all happens as effortlessly as you breathe.
A different way to look at it is through the lens of systems thinking.
When you look at the world, you will see a great ensemble of complex systems interacting with each other in often unpredictable ways.
Take the financial system which is influenced by the behaviour of consumers, cities and countries.
The financial system of a country such as Japan shares many similarities with the global financial system.
The difference is in scale.
The way a small creek flows after rain is similar to how a big river flows.
The difference is in scale.
The subconscious mind can be seen as a fractal of a greater Universal Mind comprised of all the minds of every point of consciousness in the Universe.
The Master Key System Chapter 14: The Power of The Universal Mind
“The Universal Mind, being infinite and omnipotent, has unlimited resources at its command, and when we remember that it is also omnipresent, we cannot escape the conclusion that we must be an expression or manifestation of that Mind.”
If something is omnipresent, it means it must be everywhere.
Through logical deduction, we must all have a spark of this Universal Mind within us.
As stated by Hermetic philosophers in the Kybalion,
“THE ALL is in the earth-worm, and yet the earth-worm is far from being THE ALL.”
Or in the bible,
“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you don’t come from me, but the Father lives in me and does his own work.”
If this power can create the Universe, it can help you achieve any of your earthly desires. The key is to learn how to get in touch with it.
The process requires concentration and patience.
“But the thought must be clear cut, steady, fixed, definite, unchangeable; you cannot take one step forward and two steps backward”.
Haanel explains how your world is like a mirror reflecting your inner state.
There is a delay in the manifestation, and hence you must persist in the mental work until you see the fruits of your labor.
Often we look at negative outer circumstances and get demotivated, but just as a plant will remain for some time after its roots have been cut,
the results of our previous mental habits might linger.
We live in a world governed by cause and effect so the process of right thinking will inevitably change your outer conditions.
“We get results in exact accordance with our understanding of the law and our ability to make the proper application. We secured no results from the laws governing electricity until someone formulated the law and showed us how to apply it.”
Law is Law and the differences in results come from a difference in application.
Every human can improve their outer conditions by changing their thoughts.
We can’t all obtain the same results because we are not the same.
Some things will be very unlikely to manifest from your current state.
Each life has its destiny, so not all possibilities are open to you in this lifetime.
For instance, if you are born in China, becoming the President of the United States is highly unlikely.
It’s not impossible but improbable.
One thing we can all do is drastically improve our outer conditions.
You can get any emotional or mental state you are seeking.
Emotional states are the outcomes we truly want.
The physical manifestations such as cars, degrees and accomplishments, are merely tangible goals which we believe will create the desired emotional state.
The Master Key System Chapter 14 Exercise Explained
“For your exercise this week, concentrate on Harmony, and when I say concentrate, I mean all that the word implies — concentrate so deeply, so earnestly, that you will be conscious of nothing but Harmony.”
The definition of the word ‘Harmony’ is
agreement of ideas, feelings, or actions, or a pleasing combination of different parts.
The Harmony Haanel speaks of is between you and the creator or Universal Mind.
The exercise is vague and up to your interpretation.
One could concentrate on Harmony through silent meditation.
One could observe their outer world and investigate the harmony between the Universal Mind and all things.
Note how night follows day.
The patterns of the moon.
How animals and man relate with each other.
Concentrate on the idea of how all the conditions needed to be perfect for life to exist on earth (we are in the Goldilocks Zone).
Do this, and you will be one step closer to mastering your mind so you can shift your reality.
