The Master Key System Chapter 9 Explained
The Master Key System Chapter 9 deals with the power of affirmations.
Affirmations will help you focus on what you want instead of the nagging outer conditions opposed to your goals.
“…remember that it is axiomatic that ‘two things cannot exist in the same place at the same time.’ Exactly the same thing is true in the mental and spiritual world; so that your remedy is plainly to substitute thoughts of courage, power, self-reliance, and confidence, for those of fear, lack, and limitation.”
— Charles Haanel
In the physical world it is known that things occupy a state.
Water can be liquid, steam or ice, but it will not be all three at the same time.
Depending on the conditions it changes phases.
The same occurs with human thoughts and emotions.
You can’t think two opposing thoughts at the same time.
You can’t think of a pink elephant while also thinking about a blue one.
One form will prevail.
You can’t feel heartbroken while feeling happy.
One emotion will dominate at any given time.
Affirmations are tools which help you win the mental battle.
Visualization, as explained in earlier chapters, is also a powerful tool when used appropriately.
“Visualization is a very different process from seeing; seeing is physical, and is therefore related to the objective world, the “world without,” but Visualization is a product of the imagination, and is therefore a product of the subjective mind, the “world within.” It therefore possesses vitality — it will grow. The thing visualized will manifest itself in form. The mechanism is perfect…”
— Charles Haanel
The thoughts you entertain and the words you say to yourself have an interesting way of materializing.
They become real through the power of the subconscious mind.
Guard your words and thoughts.
The Master Key System Chapter 9 Big Idea: The Power of Affirmations
Haanel tells a story of Frederick Elias Andrews, a man who was afflicted by a condition which made him crippled.
At age 13 Frederick and his mother visited a doctor who deemed his condition incurable.
His mother asked the doctor what he would do if Frederick had been his son.
The doctor replied, “I would fight — fight as long as there is a breath of life to fight for.”
This motivated Frederick and his mother to work on his health issue.
“At last the victory came, and I have grown from a little, crooked, twisted, cripple, going about on my hands and knees, to a strong, straight, well-formed male.”
— Frederick
Much like Napoleon Hill’s famous story of his son Blair.
Frederick was able to heal himself through having a burning desire for health.
He created this burning desire through the power of affirmation.
“I built up an affirmation for myself, taking the qualities I most needed, and affirming for myself over and over again, ‘I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, and happy.’ I kept up this affirmation, always the same, never varying, till I could wake up in the night and find myself repeating, ‘I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, and happy.’ It was the last thing on my lips at night and the first thing in the morning.”
— Frederick
Many people, especially patients of Émile Coué, claim the use of affirmations helped them in their healing.
Please note this is not medical advice but simply people’s statements about using affirmations.
If you are dealing with a health condition, seek out the help of a medical professional (homeopaths can be beneficial).
Frederick goes on to explain how he also sent out the positive affirmation to others.
“Whatever you desire for yourself, affirm it for others and it will help you both.”
— Frederick
When you wish hate upon others, you will find hate being reflected back onto you.
When you wish abundance and happiness for others, the same comes your way.
This is why dictators tend to live miserable lives.
Did Hitler look like a happy person to you?
In modern culture we see this principle playing out.
The rapper Tupac made different music earlier in his career.
Songs like ‘Keep Ya Head Up’ were positive and uplifting to millions.
When the rapper signed to Death Row Records and became obsessed with death (often referencing his own death), he sealed his fate and died young.
Many rockstars who sang about dying young ended up dying before their time.
Pay attention to your thoughts.
How To Use Affirmations
At first we can’t keep the evil thoughts from coming, but we can keep from entertaining them. The only way to do this is to forget them — which means, get something for them. This is where the ready-made affirmation comes in.
— Charles Haanel
Pay attention to the negative conditions to which you tend to succumb, perhaps ideas of scarcity, fear or loss.
Develop affirmations which neutralize these thoughts and emotions.
Follow the advice of Roman Emperor and Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius.
“Let thy principles be brief and fundamental, which, as soon as thou shalt recur to them, will be sufficient to cleanse the soul completely.”
Cleanse your soul by affirming what you want.
The Master Key System Chapter 9 Exercise
“This week visualize a plant. Take a flower, the one you most admire, and bring it from the unseen into the seen. Plant the tiny seed, water it, care for it, place it where it will get the direct rays of the morning sun. See the seed burst; it is now a living thing…”
— Charles Haanel
The Master Key System Week 9 lesson is a continuation of the imagination exercise from Week 8.
Haanel invites the student to witness the growth of a flower through the power of imagination. The idea of this exercise is to learn how to get into the spirit of a thing. This is what Thomas Troward called the ‘Spiritual Prototype’.
When we do this, we develop our concentration skills.
When it comes time to concentrate on our health, wealth or love, we will be able to use the same skills as those needed to cultivate a spiritual flower.
Do this, and you will be one step closer to living and dying well.
